He was accused of sexism - some people don't get his northern cynisism). Audience members report great variation in the quality of the shows - on occasion the talent for ad-libbing seems to desert him to be replaced by a shambolic, fragmentary performance, but other times pure surrealism.

The pathos in these shows is often remarked upon as it is often hard to identify how much of the apparent disintegration of Vegas is performance and how much is a genuine, guileless display of personal pain.

This show was a 2001 television comedy series directed by Stewart Lee. It starred Simon Munnery as his League Against Tedium character and contained acerbic stand-up routines atop of a transit van and sketches including mainstays such as "24 Hour News", (performed by Johnny Vegas), operatic intermissions by Kombat Opera and a two characters engaged in a duel over their hats.

Story of the Earl of Rochester, friend of Charles II and a Restoration era pornographer and poet. He was an anti-monarchist Royalist and an atheist who converted to Christianity. The story is about how the Earl's cynicism is thrown for a loop when he falls in love with a struggling young actress.
