In the opening episode, Phil Parker (Nail) takes a huge interest in son Jack’s band – much to Jack’s dismay.

Jack and his friends, Granville and Eddie, however, only formed the band to have a bit of a laugh and maybe attract some attention from the girls. But Phil has other ideas. He may be a cabinet-maker now, but no one can take his silver disc away from him.

The character of Spender is a tough and able cop cleaning up the streets of London with his somewhat unorthodox methods. Following a tragic incident, he's sent home, back to the North East to his hometown of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, which had taken him 20-odd years to get out of.

Although never commercially released, you may have seen the official-looking (left) printed disks at car boot sales / records fairs.

As you can see fom the video cover the first series was originally released on (3 separate) VHS tapes and have long since been deleted. There were 2 episodes on the first 2 releases and 3 on the final.

The cover below is from a supposed (2008) Scandanavia DVD release - 3 disks for £34. I don't have this. As it states below, my recordings are from UK TV broadcasts.

Somewhere in England, in the Autumn of 1955, a widowed father and his son live an idyllic life together.

Only their gas station happens to sit on a piece of land that a local developer wants to buy. And when he won't take no for an answer, and sets government inspectors and social works onto Danny and his father, Danny and his father decide to get even with Hazell and his pheasant- shooting friends in a manner in keeping with their own family tradition.

Four aleins (in human form) crash land on earth and one is separated (Mel Smith). He spends the rest of the film trying to get back to the others who have become famous pop stars. Absurd? It certainly is but has some great one liners and funny scenes. It has the dual comedy of Jimmy Nail (almost playing the loveable slob character Oz from Wiedersehen Pet') and Mel Smith. For a small budget film this has beome a bit of a classic. It was directed by Mike Hodges (Get Carter / Flash Gordon)
