Series 1

Starring...
Griff Rhys Jones

Great Cities of The World - Series 1 - 60 mins each.

   London
A whistle-stop tour of London, featuring visits to such tourist attractions as Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, together with lesser-known locales - notably the macabre Necropolis Railway in Westminster Road. Other ports of call include Sotheby's, St Paul's Cathedral, Burlington Arcade and the city's financial district - along with a late-night boxing club where brokers can work off their aggression in the ring.

   New York
Visits to major metropolises, beginning with New York, where Griff gets his hands dirty with the Sanitation Department, cleans the windows of a skyscraper and goes backstage at a Broadway production. Among his other ports of call are Grand Central Station, the Morgan Stanley children's hospital, and a factory founded more than 150 years ago that employs 450 people to make exactly the same thing that it first manufactured in 1853 - Steinway pianos.

   Paris
A whistle-stop tour of Paris, which survived World War Two unscathed because Hitler considered it `too beautiful to bomb.' Included on the itinerary are visits to such instantly recognisable landmarks as the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe, together with an expedition into the famous catacombs, a late-night shift at a brasserie, and a stint with the city's graffiti eradication squad.

The Trial of The Knights Templar - 45 mins

The final programme in a four-part series of religious documentaries focuses on the downfall of the Knights Templar. For 200 years these pious warriors defended pilgrims in the Holy Land and established a network of banks that made them rich and respected. But the order collapsed when its leaders were tried and executed for heresy.

This film explores the evidence against the knights and looks at the real reasons for their fall. Founded in 1095, the Knights Templar were the warrior heroes of Christendom, combining the lifestyle of monks with the bloody work of soldiers.

The Day We Learned To Think

Starring...
Uknown

The Day We Learned To Think - 35 mins

Documentary About Human Intelligence Development.

Understanding of humans' earliest past often comes from studying fossils. They tell us much of what we know about the people who lived before us. There is one thing fossils cannot tell us; at what point did we stop living day-to-day and start to think symbolically, to represent ideas about our environment and how we could change it? At a dig in South Africa the discovery of a small piece of ochre pigment, 70,000 years old, has raised some very interesting questions.

The 1970's Office

Starring...
Nicole Adams
Natasha Alexander
Robert Clayman
Jasmine Parry
Joe Rowntree
Paul Shearer
Matthew Stripling
Victor Van Amerongen

  The 1970's Office

A bunch of people are plucked out of their ordinary jobs to live the life of an advertising agency office from the 1970s for two weeks. That's no mobile phones, no cash points, no computer, no Internet - in fact, nothing more than a few flip charts, drawing boards and extra staff.

Although there are smaller challenges along the way, it all leads up to a big pitch where our team of sideboard-wearing, fluorescent-hued executives try to win an imaginary contract to promote a space hopper against a team who have none of the anachronistic restrictions placed on them. Some of these fashions are still worn in the office.

The set is fabulously kitsch and the feel is surprisingly good.
